One of the main sources of bourbon was the Ripy Brothers Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, although the town may have been known as Tyrone at the time. Wild Turkey 101 is a deep amber bourbon with scents of brown sugar and toasted spice that lead into tastes of toffee vanilla, bold spice and hints of orange. They did not distill, but rather they purchased the bourbon for Wild Turkey from a variety of sources. Austin, Nichols & Co originally began as a wholesale grocer, then added wine and spirits, and then transitioned to only wine and spirits. The Wild Turkey brand was started by Austin, Nichols & Co back in the 1940s. Nonetheless, I would feel remiss if I did not briefly discuss it. Situated in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, the Wild Turkey Distillery is an exceptional example for a Whiskey distillery that follows its own vision of how Bourbon. Wild Turkey 101 offers a lesson in traditional American values, most notably the refusal to compromise on standards of excellence.
